Ahem. Just discovered why I feel crappy. Not (thankfully) the flu, but instead, alarmingly low blood pressure. 85 over 50. Probably not something I should get excited about, or I might pass out for only about the second time in my life...

That sounds very low.
Please move around very carefully until this gets sorted.
the fainting is not good - speaking from experience.

get well soon

Yes, the doctor looked a bit worried, more so when I said I was going to drive home. And I didn't like fainting when I did it last time, so I don't have any desire to repeat the experience.

Thanks. *hugs*

Thanks, but I'm not sure there is anything and I don't want to lie down because I'll only feel worse when I get up again.

*hugs*

Hm, when I had really low blood pressure they made me drink bullion. Blech! I think the salt was to get me to retain some fluid...
Anyway, I hope they figure out the reason your BP is so low and you're feeling as good as new soon!

Ew, ew, ew! Thankfully no one suggested anything like that! But I probably should drink lots of water. Thanks for the tip.

No problem KB. When I had really low BP, if I got up to fast the edges of my vision would "gray out" on me... like the edges of a pic that's been "softened." Anyway, the Drs recommeneded I drink some bullion and in a short time I was better.
Therefore I have to assume that drinking water, and consuming more salt in your daily diet might be helpful. Other things which I know raise blood pressure...
The herb Marjoram is supposed to help balance a person's BP... if it's too low, it raises it... if it's to high it lowers it. *shrug* You might want to give it a try.
And, then again... stress is usually quite good at raising a person's BP... so *cough* Who do you want to pick a fight with? LOL

If I move my head too fast or look down for too long, the world starts to tilt and I get a pain on the side of my head. I haven't been given bullion, or anything, for that matter, so I presume they don't think it will do much good. (I have a horror of salty drinks, having had to gargle with warm salty water when I had my wisdom teeth out. It still makes me cringe to think about it, and when I fill the salt-shaker, I can smell it again!)

I was not planning to go out today (I'm on my own here), but if I feel up to it, I will go and get some MArjoram and see if it will do the trick.

And I don't like fights. I usually run away from them! Want to see me run?

Run KB... maybe that'll get your blood pressure going? LOL
Just kidding... though I heard yesterday that Garlic will also help balance blood pressure like Marjoram does.
So if you happen to have any garlic in the house... why not try that?
You don't have to drink a salty drink (bullion)... why not just eat something salty and drink lots of water? *Brings you popcorn, soda, fish, shrimp, potato chips, pretzels...*

Hmm, garlic is certainly worth a shot and I will happily accept all those yummies you're bringing me! *g*

I think chocolate is the best solution to this problem ;o)

Mind you, I tend to look on chocolate as being the elixir of youth, the philosophers stone and the route to longevity. It also does wonders for your mental well being! lol

Acksherally, chocolate is a good source of iron, so maybe it would be good for your bp!

You know, I think chocolate is an excellent idea! Now I just have to go and get some without getting behind the wheel. (Wasn't fun driving to or from the doctors, wondering which power pole to crash into!)

Ooh, that is low. Aren't you supposed to eat salt? (I know you're NOT supposed to if you have high blood pressure, so maybe it would help with low.)

Don't stand up quickly, and feel better soon.

Well, I had salt with dinner. Maybe it will help. Thanks. *hugs*

Crumbs, that is low. Didn't the doctor have any useful advice?

Agree that chocolate is the way to go - the darker and richer the better! :-)

None whatever, but I didn't think much of him anyway. I shall go to my normal doctor next week and see what he suggests.

And I'm more of a milk chocolate person myself. Dark is too rich for me.

Oh do take care and I hope you feel better soon. Have you been given any medication or advice on what/what not to do?

{{Sends hugs}}

Thanks. *hugs you* There doesn't seem to be anything they can do for low blood pressure. If you faint, they might hook you up to IV fluids, but I'm certainly not at that level!

Oh, my goodness! And you said nothing last night! You look after yourself, okay? *looks stern*

posted by [identity profile] katherine-b.livejournal.com at 12:03pm on 26/08/2005
Because I was perfectly all right last night! That's what is ridiculous - how does this sort of thing creep up on one in less than 12 hours?!

posted by [identity profile] sangerin.livejournal.com at 12:08pm on 26/08/2005
My guess would be that it didn't entirely creep up... it was probably getting progressivly lower, it was only today that it hit the tipping point.

To be entirely selfish, I really don't need any more friends having horrible times. Slightly less selfishly... I repeat what I said earlier. You take care of yourself.

That makes sense.

And hugs to you. Hope other people's problems sort themselves out, as I'm sure this will eventually, too.
