Well, today was lots of fun, but also very somewhat expensive. After leaving Edinburgh, I headed for Helen Barber's house (she is the author of Chalet School Headmistress and Bettanys of Taverton High) and we had a lovely lunch at her house and chatted about books, politics and all sorts of things.

After this I headed for a highly recommended bookshop called TB Books in Addingham near Leeds. I made the following purchases:

Changes for the Chalet School
The Chalet School Does It Again
The New Mistress at the Chalet School
Summer Term at the Chalet School
Prefects of the Chalet School

In the interests of honesty, I should admit that all five hardbacks cost me a total of £250, the same amount as I saw for Chalet School Reunion back in Hay. This feels a lot more satisfying and far less guilt inducing than that purchase (had I made it) would have done.

Tonight I am in Nottingham, planning to visit the Galleries of Justice tomorrow, before heading for London and the return of my car. (I may also have another bookshop to visit on the way. Somebody stop me please. *g*)

Told you it was good! (by the way it's actually TP Books not TB although given the number of CS books in there.....)

So glad you managed to visit it and find books you wanted. And now you know it's there then you can plan for next time you're in the UK - although Lou would be very happy to post out to you I'm sure.

Oops, TP it is! *blush*

And yes, that is definitely on my itinerary now!

However are you going to cope with the book shops in London?! Ha ha ha

*lol* Well, the books I want urgently have been found/purchased now, so I will have to keep to my budget. That and the fact that I have to get all of these home and don't want to post too much more stuff back Down Under.

I must get round to checking if TP Books open at weekends - it's only about an hour's drive from here (although driving over the Pennines isn't always fun in January!) and I've never been.

She's open on Fridays and Saturdays, but you can also call and ask her to open for you (as I did) which is brilliant because she can bring some more books out of her store if she knows what you're looking for (and tell her that I sent you *g*).

Thanks - I might try that. I sometimes go up to Boundary Mill, a shopping outlet place near Pendle Hill, and then over to Skipton, which isn't far from Addingham. Trouble is, if I go to Addingham I'll end up in Ilkley having an enormous afternoon tea at Bettys (famous chain of cafés in Yorkshire, which thankfully has never made its way over to Lancashire or it'd be tempting me all the time!) :-).

Alison - she's my local bookshop! Well about an hours drive but some of it is a lovely scenic drive so doesn't count. I'd be very happy to meet you there some time and introduce you to Lou (unless it's someone else running it as she's at a fair). I love taking people there and looking at their faces as they realise just HOW many GO books can be crammed into a small space.

And Betty's is fun as a treat - it's fine to treat yourself occasionally.

For some weird reason LJ has screened this so it won't let me see who it's from!! Dawn? Thank you, anyway :-).

yes - sorry it's Dawn - silly LJ! It would be lovely to meet up and go book shopping and cake eating, especially as Betty's actually do stuff I can eat!

I feel the need to say "bugger it!"

Mainly because if I'd been paying attention sooner, and actually added you to my f-list when I thought I had, I'd have known about this in advance and could have met you for a coffee.

Seriously, I could be in Nottingham in about half an hour, depending on buses.

excuse me while I pout :(

I echo your "bugger it" as a meeting would have been lovely. Never mind, love, I will visit again one day and we can arrange it in advance.
