Rating: G
Characters: Donna and the Doctor
Disclaimer: Still wishing and hoping they might be mine, but to no avail.
Spoilers: Everything up to the end of Season 4.
Summary: Donna has news for the Doctor...
Chapter IV
Elizabeth’s hair goes obligingly curly the very day she turns six months old. But that’s not the thing both the Doctor and Donna are waiting for. That mysterious ‘thing’, however, takes a few more days.
But when the Doctor hears a delighted shriek coming from Elizabeth’s bedroom, he knows.
“What?” he demands eagerly, bursting into the room. “Did she? Did she say it?”
Donna’s eyes are swimming, the grin on her face as big as it was the day their baby girl was born, but she merely nods and looks down at Elizabeth.
“Say it again, darling,” she urges. “Tell Daddy what you said to me.”
Elizabeth looks from one parent to another before giving a huge, gummy grin. She might not know what she’s done, but she’s clearly inherited her father’s love of attention.
“Mumum,” she says clearly, and the Doctor’s grin puts Donna’s to shame.
“Oh, you clever, brilliant, genius little child,” he coos, snatching her up from the changing table and swinging her into the air. “Say it again, my beautiful girl. Say ‘mummy’.”
“Mumum,” comes the ready reply, and she bubbles at him.
“And now the hard one,” Donna says when Elizabeth stops being flown through the air in the Doctor’s arms. “Say ‘Daddy’, sweetheart. Daddy.”
Elizabeth’s blue eyes travel from her mother to her father. There’s a tiny frown on her infant features. And the Doctor’s hearts nearly stop when she opens her mouth.
“D…” she begins, her blue eyes fixed on him. “D… Dot-tor!”
