Dear City of Melbourne, Melbourne Fun Run organisers, and arrangers of bi-monthly bike rides down Beach Road,

I hate the lot of you.

I had to be a work yesterday at 11am. I left the house at 9.45am for the 25 minute (at longest) trip to Telstra Dome, wanting to have lots of spare time to get ready and relax before my 8.5 hour shift began. I had seen, on Wednesday and Friday, signs warning that the big bike-ride would block all of Beach Road for the whole of Sunday morning, so I cleverly planned to go down Nepean Highway. The traffic seemed astonishingly heavy and the far left lane seemed blocked for no apparent reason. Of course, all became clear when I saw people puffing and panting along the road.

As a result, four lanes of traffic were crushed into two (which the news rather amusingly, and with devastating understatement, called 'traffic chaos' in the evening - it was all right for them, they were in helicopters!). I saw snails passing us. I passed the Shrine and believed the end was in sight. It was, for the runners. We had to go around every back street I never knew existed in Melbourne. I got to the stadium at 10.45.

Okay, it's not your fault that I was feeling like crap, nor that I forgot only my usual entrance gate is open before 12 noon, so that I circled the stadium, my panic and near-hysterical tears growing by the second. At 11am, I gave up, parked the car, called the office and told them that I wasn't coming in. The lovely girl suggested I come in for coffee and to calm down, but I wasn't paying $15 to park for a coffee, so I declined and headed for home.

Aha, I thought, I'll be clever and go against the cycling people on Beach Road. (I wasn't able to face Nepean Highway again.) Now we come to the crux of the matter - why in the name of all the hells do you have to block BOTH SIDES of a dual carriageway for a cycling race? I refuse to believe they use all of the road! I went by the back roads, only to hit the road where the stragglers from the marathon were coming and so I had to turn around, driving almost the whole way back into the city before I could get onto a road that took me home.

I hate you all - did I mention that already?

The only good part was that it poured with rain. I hope you all get pneumonia and die.

Ha.

No love,

Me.

In other news, I have completely lost my mind and signed up for Nanowrimo. Aaaarrrrrggggggghhhhh!!!!
