Well, she's had surgery to have a shunt put in and survived it. The surgeon, who we laughingly call a coward because he won't cut out the tumor - she would die on the table or soon after of a massive stroke if he did - said that there was a lot of pressure in there and that the shunt is relieving it, which will at least make her more comfortable. If that meant she didn't have to be doped to the eyeballs, that would be nice. If she survived until and beyond Christmas, that would be a blessing of the highest order.

You can tell I'm not overly positive anymore, can't you?

I'm not sure whether it's because I really believe she's going to die or if I just don't want to open myself up to pain and disappointment again.

The chemo she might be starting on Monday (depending on how she is) is the third type they've tried and the effectiveness reduces as you work your way down the list.

Maybe that's why.
