Back in London, safely ensconced in my hotel room, and Henry-less. For those who had lost track, Henry was my rental car. I have also lost Allison, my sat-nav, but she was getting a bit grumpy in the last few days so I'm not as sad at her loss. I've also been very fortunate in my hotel. It's nice and close to Earl's Court Tube stop (although not quite as close as before) and it has satellite TV and free breakfast. I was even lucky enough to get a double bed and a decent view, as well as a reasonably big bathroom. Lovely!

I've been academic again today and am now the proud possessor of a reading card for the Oxford University library. Unfortunately the library didn't have a lot of the material I was looking for, focusing more on military diaries. So I headed back to London, and as I'm here a few days ahead of schedule, I'll go back to the British Library and see what else I can find. It's been suggested that I try the Imperial War Museum records and also the Women's Library. If anyone else has suggestions for places I could try, I'd be very happy to try it!

I have also added another author to my list today by going to visit the Roald Dahl museum in Greater Missenden. Similar to Seven Stories, I would recommend this as a place to take children who like the Roald Dahl stories, but it's not so much of an adult thing. Still, the cafe has lovely food!

It feels a bit odd not to have a car now or to be planning where to head off to tomorrow, but it's quite relaxing as well, particularly not to have to worry about speeding fines or going the right way. I can even read while someone else does all the work!

Sadly only another few more days on my trip. I'll be heading back to Australia on Tuesday, my lovely month over. Still, at least I've got another week off work after that to get more things sorted out before the mundane life resumes...

Glad you've been having a good time here - you might also want to look at Senate House library in Russell Square if you're after hard to find books.

Enjoy your last few days here, sorry the weather seems to have taken a turn for the worse!

Ooh, good idea, thanks. I'll definitely try that.

So far today the weather seems rather lovely, although there is rain predicted for tomorrow. Still, that definitely doesn't worry me, and I'd rather have that than really hot weather!

Kensington Central Library has a very large biography collection including many hard-to-find works, if that's any use to you. It's not on open access though, so you would need to know what you were looking for rather than just browsing.

Thank you! I'm not sure that will be as helpful, but I'll certainly check it out.
