*mutters nasty things about librarians*
*apologises to any librarians who might read this*
Despite that inauspicious beginning, I've had a good day today, or what has passed of it, for the most part.
I got going early to pick up a package that couldn't be delivered yesterday as I wans't home and it didn't fit in my little letter box, and although I forgot to take proper identification with me, I didn't need it, as things turned out, so yay for that.
I then took one of my favourite bus trips (front of the top deck of a double-decker bus) to the Uni library. Don't know why I like it so much - it's such soothing, through very greeny and tree-lined streets, etc. Much nicer than the U-Bahn, except no little TV to watch.
Got to the libary, cloaked my things and went to get the book in which the one single article I wanted was in. Then I saw the sign that I had obviously missed yesterday - these books my not be photocopied.
Buggrit!
All right, so p'copying a bound book of spreadsheet newspapers hadn't been easy, but couldn't I have noticed the sign after I'd copied it?
I am, of course, too law-abiding to just go ahead and do it, and plead ignorance later. So I asked a nice-looking librarian what to do, and got my nose bitten off for my pains. Well so-ree!! Sheesh! I even got told to keep my voice down! Er, hate to say it, lady, but there ain't no way to talk German quietly! It just doesn't happen.
Anyway, she passed me through to someone else, who sent me off to someone else, who gave me the microfilm (I hate those!!!) and handed me on to someone else yet again, who did help me (sort of). She set up the machine and left me to it, after checking that I had enough change, but not checking that I had the correct coins, as the printer only accepted 10 and 50 cent pieces.
When I found that this condition had to be met, I trailed back and got the old hag from the first part of this tale, who told me to turn off the machine while I went to use the coin changing machine.
Of course I couldn't get the bloody film in when I got back, could I? *fume*
Eventually, a nice librarian (apparently there is such an animile, or else she was a foreigner) stopped and gave me a hand, thank God, or I firmly believe I would still be there! And all this for just four pages of article!
But anyway, I finally got there, managed to print out the article so that it was readable, rewound the microfilm and gave it back, etc.
I had planned to spend the afternoon in another library, but the thought of more microfilms was just too much! I'll see whether I feel up to it tomorrow...
