I didn't get home last night until after 9pm, and didn't have the energy to sit down and be really descriptive about my day, so I'll squeeze it in now, before I go off to Uni again.
Most important facet of the day: it snowed! Like mad! I loved it! Sadly, of course, most of it is now melted, but at least I had a good go of it! (Note: next time, do not on any account forget gloves!)
So, I had a ticket to go and see Gruesse aus Dachau (Greetings from Dachau), which was a documentary film I had see advertised as part of the Berlinale (Berlin Film Fesitival). I bought the ticket on Monday. I was sure the start time was 4pm, so I planned my day around it.
I had to go to the library (surprise!) so I thought I would get there are 1pm, do my research and be at the cinema at 4pm. I walked down to my local department store to get batteries for my Discman and also folders to store the numerous photocopies I am massing. I had lunch and then stopped by a bookshop. I bought two books for my own interest, not the these (Hitler's Women parts 2 and 3 - I got part 1 last time).
I set out to walk to the library, as it's not that far and I hate the relevant U-Bahn station with a passion because I ALWAYS go out the wrong end. Of course, I went the wrong way and found myself further away than I had been before I started, so I gave up and got on the darned U-Bahn.
For once I got out at the correct end, waited for a bus that never came, decided to walk, realised the bus wouldn't have stopped outside the library anyway, and went in in a rather bad mood. This was not helped by discovering that the only lockers they had were the small square ones, so my bag would get all wet from my coat, which was soaking wet because now it was raining, not snowing.
By this time, it was 2:30pm, not 1pm, and I wanted to leave at 3pm to ensure that I got to the cinema on time. I found details for the relevant books, but was told that most would be in the library branch next door. *sigh* My list was growing longer, the longer I sat at the computer, so I gave up and left the library. I walked to the cinema complex, getting there are 3:30pm, and thought that was pretty good as it gave me a nice amount of time,
Hey, stop giggling!
Okay, so you've worked out that the film started at 6pm, not 4pm.
I nearly tore my hair out. I didn't have time to get back to the library, so all I could do was hang around. *sigh*
On the upside, the film was excellent! English subtitles, which made it even better! And there was only myself and one other person in the cinema, which is always nice.
Then I tried to go home.
Now let me say that the S- and U-Bahn system in Berlin is nearly faultless. They apologise if something is going to be five minutes late, for crying out loud! But last night, whether because of the snow (yay!) or because they were just being b*stards, I don't know. Unfortunately, instead of the two trips it would take to get me home (S-Bahn to Zoo Gardens and then bus), it took four! The film finished at 7:30pm and I didn't get home until after nine, when I should have been there by eight!
But at least it wasn't my fault...
